When families are left alone and "hung out to dry", the feeling of God's abandonment often takes center stage in each family member's life. When there is no place to go, no refuge for shelter and food, despair and panic can strike.
Family Promise of Jacksonville is an interfaith hospitality network providing temporary shelter, meals, hospitality and case management for families experiencing homelessness. The program is accomplished through the participation of local congregations, dedicated staff and hundreds of volunteers.
During the period of care, every effort is made to provide items that families need to sustain themselves. Each church cares for a family for a week at a time. At First Church, members take turns volunteering their services on a rotational basis.
