EXPERIENCING GOD
The Group
At FUMC, we meet every Wednesday night from 6:30P-7:45P and are using the 276-page Experiencing God workbook 2007 edition, with 12 units and 5 days in each unit. That equals at least 60 weeks of once-a-week small-group exercises. There are other church courses that shrink-wrap the workbook into less weeks or show DVD's instead, but we feel the shorter time horizon doen't do the course or the small group dynamic any justice. It is that good! We also start our sessions with songs, and end them with prayer requests.
The Background
First published in 1990, Experiencing God is a modern classic that has sold in excess of 10 million copies worldwide. EG is based on seven Scriptural realities that teach us how to develop a true relationship with the Creator. By understanding how God is working through us even as we try to fathom His ways, we can begin to clearly know Him intimately and to help Him where He is at work bringing a lost world to Himself.
The Central Theme: the Author, Henry Blackaby, writes that Knowing God does not come through a program, a study, or a method. Knowing God comes through a relationship with a Person. This is an intimate love relationship with God. Through this relationship, God reveals Himself, His purposes, and His ways; and He invites you to join Him where He is already at work.
The Experiencing God ministry is even more vibrant today than when it began. As it continues to rise, and the world continues to change, the Experiencing God book (2007) has been revised and expanded with more than seventy percent of its material newly written. However we teach the originally-published 12th chapter (Continuing Fellowship With God) as well as the newer 12th chapter (Experiencing God in your Daily Life) for even more perspectives.
The Comments
There are over 500 reader comments on Amazon.com. The following is an example: "so extremely enlightening, things I had never thought of before, every Christian must read this book, profound reading, this study guide will change your life, the content is so riveting, changing our thought process, and, if you Christian leaders out there are not using this as a basic tool you have missed the boat and have done a disservice to your life groups"
